Bonfire Bread was founded by Andrew Austin, a respected name in the baking industry with an award-winning reputation built over decades. After stepping away from the craft, Andrew returned with a renewed passion to champion organic baking and traditional bread-making methods — bringing Bonfire Bread to life.
What began as a personal mission to create honest, organic bread quickly grew into a family business, with his sons Jarrod and Daniel joining to carry the vision forward.
The first store opened in Narrabeen in 2018, followed by Avalon a year later. From the very beginning, Bonfire Bread gained recognition within the Australian baking community for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
In its first year alone, Bonfire Bread earned two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at the Sydney Fine Food Show. This early success was followed by a major milestone — being awarded Overall Champion Loaf at the National Artisan Baking Competition, along with the title of Most Successful Exhibitor, winning four out of five sourdough categories.
Bonfire Bread is proud to be among the early adopters of certified organic baking at scale in Sydney. Using high-quality organic wheat and grains, the bakery achieved certification through the Australian Certified Organic, ensuring every product meets strict organic standards.
