OUR ORGANIC GRAINS

Organic Stoneground Kamut (Khorsan)

One cup provides over 100% of our daily recommended value of manganese a nutrient that supports the nervous system, aids the metabolism and regulates blood sugar. This ancient grain is also prized for its digestibility. Its high in dietary fiber, protein and minerals like selenium, zinc, and magnesium.

Like all wheats KAMUT® khorasan contains gluten, however, many people with sensitivities to modern wheat report being able to eat KAMUT® khorasan wheat with no difficulty.

Organic Stoneground Purple Wheat

Purple wheat is another unhybridised grain that fits under the ancient grains category.

The grain’s purplish brown colour comes from the high content of pigments known as bioflavonoids. Bioflavonoids are also responsible for the purple tone in grapes, berries and other dark coloured fruits.

Studies indicate that the antioxidant capacities of anthocyanin may provide protection from DNA damage and oestrogen dependant cancers, as well as boosting production of immune regulating cytokines, and strengthening blood capillaries and cell membranes. In addition, the purple wheat also contains melatonin which controls our circadian rhythms.

As a final note on this amazing ancient grain is that the purple wheat we use is stoneground milled. Stone ground milling provides the added benefit of retaining the wheatgerm that is packed with vitamins, minerals and beneficial oils.

Organic Spelt Flour

Spelt is another member of the ancient grain club and is well known for its slightly nutty sweetish flavour.

Spelt-wheat is high in high-quality protein, very rich in vitamins A and E as well as B group vitamins and contains many minerals like magnesium, phosphorus and especially iron.

The added benefit of Spelt flour is that it is more water soluble than modern wheat varieties. As a result, spelt flour may be easier to digest for people with a wheat intolerance.
